Bhubaneswar: With a system brewing over Bay of Bengal, the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued nowcast warning for 18 districts of Odisha, including twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, till 4.30 pm.

Light thunderstorm with lightning and light to moderate rain may affect some parts of Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Deogarh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bargarh, Rayagada, and Balangir districts in 3 hours.

People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.

The weather agency has also forecast formation of an upper air cyclonic circulation over North Andaman Sea around October 20. “Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over Central Bay of Bengal around October 22, thereafter, it is likely to move northwestwards and intensify further into a depression by October 24,” it said.

The system is likely to cause isolated heavy rainfall in Odisha on October 23-24.
