Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warning for 21 districts of Odisha, including the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, till 3.15 pm on Thursday.
Light to moderate rain/thundershower is likely in some parts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nupada, Balagir, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore in 3 hours.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strike.
After a subdued monsoon, Odisha has been experiencing heavy rain for past few days under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal, which later intensified into a low-pressure area. The state recorded an average rainfall of 15.6 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours and 83.7 mm against September monthly average of 231.9 mm.
On Wednesday, Similiguda block in Koraput district received the highest rainfall of 158 mm. The other places that recorded more than 100 mm – Boipariguda (121 mm) and Bandhugaon (107 mm) in Koraput and Nabarangpur (115 mm) in Nabarangpur district.
