Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning for 10 districts of Odisha, including state capital Bhubaneswar, till around 5 pm on Sunday.
Thunderstorm, lightning and Light to moderate rain with wind speed reaching 40 kmph may to occur at one or two pla
ces in the district of Debagada, Puri, Kendujhar, Khordha (including Bhubaneswar), Balseshwar and Malkangiri within the next three hours. Similar warning has also been issued for Nuapada, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj and Koraput till around 5 pm.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places to project themselves from lightning strikes.
The intensity of rain in the state may increase from this week with the likely formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast on July 2, which may intensify gradually into a depression the following day.
According to IMD’s morning bulletin, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall along with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) may continue in Odisha from June 28-July 3. Heavy rainfall may also occur on June 28-29. The intensity of the spell is likely to increase on June 30-July 1.
