Rainfall In Odisha To Continue Till Next Week

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rainfall in most parts of Odisha till September 7.
“A monsoon trough has stretched across Punjab and North Bay of Bengal through the North Odisha. Under its influence, there will be heavy rainfall in most places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh districts in the next 24 hours. Apart from this, there will be widespread rainfall in most parts of Odisha till next week,” said an IMD release on Saturday.
It, however, said that the rainfall which will continue till next week will not trigger any flood situation in the state.
Meanwhile, a release by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, on Saturday morning said that a cyclonic circulation has formed over the Gangetic West Bengal and its neighbourhood. If it stays for another 48 hours, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in the north, interior and coastal districts. “Usually the cyclonic circulation concentrates into a low pressure. But it cannot be said right now whether there will be a low-pressure area in the next 24 hours,” the release added.
The release has also issued thunderstorm and lightning alert for 21 districts of Ganjam, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Deogarh, Angul, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh and Kendrapara and advised people to stay indoors till 11.30 am on Saturday.
