New Delhi: As Delhi came to a standstill due to heavy rain with people reaching their offices up to three hours late, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said his entire home was under a foot of water. He also said the carpets and furniture inside his residence were ruined.
“Woke up to find my entire home under a foot of water — every room. Carpets and furniture, indeed anything on the ground, are ruined,” the Thiruvananthapuram MP tweeted.
“Apparently, the storm water drains in the neighbourhood are all clogged, so the water had no place to go. And they switched off the electricity since 6 am for fear of electrocuting people,” he further said.
However, Tharoor said the water was pumped out of the roads, and he managed to reach Parliament on time.
Ironically, Delhi Water Minister Atishi’s residence was also submerged. Visuals showed severe flooding outside the residence of the AAP leader, who recently went on a hunger strike amid a water scarcity in Delhi.
The AAP-led Delhi Government had called an emergency meeting at 2 pm today at the Delhi Secretariat, over heavy rainfall and waterlogging.
