Peshawar: The ancestral homes of Bollywood legends Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor in Peshawar have been evaluated at Rs 80.5 lakh and Rs 1 crore, respectively.
Pakistan’s provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had, in September, decided to purchase the houses to conserve the buildings which are in a dilapidated condition and face demolition threat.
Following a report of the Communication & Works Department, Peshawar’s Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Asghar fixed the price of Dilip Kumar’s 1090 square feet house at Rs 80,56,000 and that of Raj Kapoor’s 1635 square foot mansion at Rs 1,00,50,000, The Free Press Journal reported.
Located in the heart of Peshawar, the capital of this northern Pakistan province, the two buildings have been declared as national heritage.
The Kapoor Haveli was built between 1918 and 1922 by Raj’s grandfather Dewan Basheswarnath Kapoor. Raj Kapoor was born in this building.
Dilip Kumar’s ancestral house, more than 100 years old, is located in the same locality. It was declared as a national heritage in 2014 by the then-Nawaz Sharif government.
