Khurda: In a breakthrough in the murder of one Lala Pradhan at a village in Khurda district on the first day of Raja, police arrested another accused and seized brown sugar worth Rs 3.5 crore seized from him on Wednesday.
Notably, Lala (32) was shot dead by four miscreants at Dahimachhagadia village in Khurda’s Sadar police station area on the morning of June 14. Police suspected the killing to be a fall-out of an extortion attempt and formed a team under Khurda SDPO SK Mishra to nab the culprits.
A day after the murder, police had arrested one Sanjaya Behera alias Gudu for his alleged involvement in the murder.
On Wednesday, DIGP (Central Range) Ashish Kumar Singh informed that another accused, Manoranjan Sahu (20) alias Miki, was arrested.
The DIGP said police had received a tip off that Miki was riding a motorcycle from Jatani side on Khurda-Puri road and carrying brown sugar for a deal.
Police intercepted him around 6.20 am and seized around 3.6 kg brown sugar from his possession. They also seized the motorcycle, a gun, Rs 16,500 in cash, a mobile phone, a carry bag and a weighing machine from the accused.
The DIGP informed that cases under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Arms Act were registered against Miki, who was also wanted in another case.
