Bhubaneswar: The first Raja Bird Count (Raja Pakhi Parba) and 1st National Monsoon Bird Count began in Odisha on Thursday.

According to sources, birdwatchers from all over the state will observe birds across habitats, covering all districts, and submit their lists to the eBird database till June 16.

eBird is an online database of bird observations created by Cornell Lab of Ornithology, USA. It provides scientists, researchers and amateur naturalists with real-time data about bird distribution and abundance.

“Four bird walks in Bhubaneswar will be covering Anandabana, Nandankanan, Regional Science Centre and State Botanical Gardens. A large number of bird enthusiasts are expected to participate in the bird walks,” said Panchami Manoo Ukil, Founder of The Bhubaneswar Bird Walks, which is conducting the 4-day Rajo Bird Walks.

Citizens are also encouraged to watch birds in and around their homes and submit their lists on the eBird app, she added.

The Raja Bird Count in Odisha is supported by Bird Count India, Nandankanan Zoological Park, Regional Science Centre and The Bhubaneswar Bird Walks.
