Rajasthan Athlete Dies During Triathlon Competition In Odisha’s Puri

Puri: An athlete from Rajasthan died while participating in the third edition of HercUlean ITF Triathlon at Konark in Odisha’s Puri district on Saturday.

As per reports, the athlete, identified as Nitin Soni from Jodhpur in Rajasthan, was participating in the endurance multisport race that started from Ramchandi near Konark in the morning when he felt uneasy and wanted to return to his hotel. The organisers rushed him to a hospital at Konark.

After checking Nitin, the doctors advised to shift him to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Puri. The organisers took him to the DHH where the doctors declared him dead on arrival. While the cause of Nitin’s death has not been ascertained, it is suspected that he might have suffered cardiac arrest.

On being informed, a team from Ramchandi police station went to the hospital and seized the body. The police have informed the Niti’ns family about his death. Nitin was undergoing triathlon training in Mumbai, sources said.

The triathlon at Konark included 1.5-km swimming, 40-km cycling and 10-km running. Triathletes from various parts of the country and abroad have come to participated in it.
