Vrindavan: Rambharose, alias Rajendra Sisodia, a suspended constable from Rajasthan, wanted on charges of raping a minor, was arrested from Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh, after giving his pursuers the slip for over two weeks.
The suspended cop, who had earlier been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, had put on lipstick and was dressed in a burqa when he was nabbed.
He allegedly raped a 16-year-old at Dholpur in Rajasthan on December 15, SP Vikas Sangwan has been quoted by NDTV as s
aying.
Sisodia had apparently lured the teenager and her brother to his house with the promise of a job. He then sent the brother to the market and assaulted the girl. When the victim screamed, neighbours rushed to the scene. However, despite a large public protest, he managed to flee.
According to the police, the accused repeatedly changed his disguise to fool them . While police traced his location to Agra, Lucknow, and Gwalior, he managed to stay one step ahead.
“The criminal was changing his appearance constantly,” Sangwan said, noting that the accused would alternate between wearing tracksuits or jackets to pose as a VIP or high-ranking police officer.
He was finally arrested in Vrindavan following an extensive manhunt, the SP said. The accused had previously been suspended from the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) due to a prior POCSO Act case and faces multiple other allegations of harassment of women.
