Rajasthan Likely To Be Second State To Reject Farm Laws

Jaipur: After Punjab, Rajasthan is all set to be the second Congress-ruled state to formally reject Centre’s farm acts. The acts are being opposed by a large section of agriculturalists throughout the country.

State Assembly will convene a special session shortly to discuss the fallout of the contentious laws on farmers.

According to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, an Amendment Bill would be brought in the Assembly to nullify the applicability of the Central legislations. He also said that a resolution would be adopted against the Centre’s stand on the issue of farmers’ welfare. The Council of Ministers decided to call the Assembly session at its meeting held here, according to The Hindu.

Gehlot said Rajasthan would follow suit after the passage of Bills against the Central statutes in the Punjab Assembly. “The Congress stands resolutely with our annadatas (food providers) and will continue to oppose the anti-farmer laws passed by the NDA government,” his tweet read.

In another tweet, the Rajasthan CM lashed out at BJP president JP Nadda for his remarks on the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

“Now, when the corona situation is still very serious, they want to stoke tensions again. It is time to overcome the crises the nation is facing unitedly and not disrupt peace and communal harmony,” Gehlot said via another tweet.
