Bhubaneswar: All the four BJD nominees for Rajya Sabha were elected unopposed from Odisha, Returning Officer Dasarathi Satapathy announced on Wednesday.
The four BJD nominees are the chairperson of the Odisha Construction Workers Welfare Board; Subash Singh, the advisor to the government on minority affairs; Munna Khan, the advisor of Special Development Council (SDC), Sujit Kumar, and a member of the BJD women wing in Mayurbhanj district, Mamata Mahanta.
The Rajya Sabha polls are scheduled to be held on March 26. The last date for withdrawal of candidatures was Wednesday.
All the four candidates won unopposed as the opposition BJP and Congress did not field any nominee for the biennial polls in Odisha.
On the other hand, the four Independent candidates — Ganeswar Mishra, Mamata Samantaray, L P Singh and B Hembram – were disqualified because they lacked 10 proposers required to make their nominations valid.
