Mumbai: Hindi film industry actresses are taking unconventional decisions nowadays. Right from choosing offbeat roles to marrying late, adopting children without getting married, and now, freezing their eggs.
Rakhi Sawant and Kajol’s younger sister Tanishaa Mukerji are the latest to have joined the bandwagon. Let us take a look at actresses who have chosen this path.
Diana Hayden
Miss World 1997 Diana Hayden was perhaps among the first in tinseltown to opt for egg freezing. The former beauty queen first gave birth in 2016 with eggs that were frozen eight years ago. In March 2018, the actress gave birth to twins through eggs that were frozen three years ago. Talking about it prior to delivery, Hayden had told TOI, “IVF doctors are God’s angels to help couples who have any form of difficulty in conceiving. Me being pregnant with twins is fantastic news. We are looking forward to their births.
Ekta Kapoor
The filmmaker froze her eggs at 36. She had always expressed her desire to become a mother but not get married. Her doctor Nandita Palshetkar had revealed in a post that they tried to help her get pregnant with multiple cycles of IVF and IUI but they did not turn out to be successful. She had added, “Hence, we had to take help of surrogacy which we performed 9 months back at our Bloom IVF centre. Nine months later she has achieved success with the birth of a child,” E Times reported. Ekta is now mother to Ravie.
Tanishaa Mukerji
Tanishaa Mukerji recently revealed that she had her eggs frozen at the age of 39. She was quoted saying, “I didn’t have a baby and all these things were going on in my mind. I finally got some guidance and froze my eggs at the age of 39. But I also put on a lot of weight due to the procedure. They pump you with a lot of Progesterone and it bloats you a lot. Not putting on weight, you become round and glowing and become very beautiful. I love pregnant women, they are in their most beautiful phase with that baby glow. I was very happy about freezing my eggs.
Rakhi Sawant
Rakhi Sawant is the latest entrant to the club. She had revealed on Bigg Boss that she wants to be a mother and has got her eggs frozen for the same. She told TOI, “My priority is to become a mother and experience motherhood. I don’t need a Vicky Donor for my child, I need a father. I don’t want to be a single mother. I don’t know how this will happen, but I really wish it does. I just hope there comes a solution for this as I still have my eggs frozen.”
She was further quoted as saying, “Women face a lot of issues with their periods and fibroids, aur phir conceive karne mein badi takleef hoti hai. After a certain age, it is complicated to become a mother. And if one wants to work long term in Bollywood, you can decide to have kids in the future and freeze your eggs to make that possible. So it’s better if one freezes their eggs.” She also revealed “Yes, I want to become a mother. Ab time ho gaya hai. Since I have my eggs frozen, I can also work. Agar mere husband aate hain to accha hai warna in future, koi to decision mujhe lena hi padega.”
