Mumbai: Ranbir Kapoor’s much-anticipated ‘Ramayana: Part One’ could get an early theatrical rollout, with the makers reportedly planning around 300 paid preview screenings on November 4, a day before its scheduled November 5 release.
According to The Free Press Journal, the proposed screenings could allow audiences to watch the mythological epic ahead of its official theatrical debut.
“In recent years, paid previews for tentpole films have been adding substantially to the box office kitty. The craze for these talked-about films reaches a tizzy, and people are keen to watch them before the others. It’s a kind of status symbol. In the case of Ramayana, it may break records,” a source was quoted as saying by the portal.
On October 11, the makers unveiled a new poster for ‘Ramayana: Part One’, featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, with Yash appearing as Ravana in the background.
The announcement confirmed the film’s worldwide theatrical release for November 5, with advance bookings scheduled to open on Dussehra, October 20.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, the film is planned as the first instalment of a two-part epic.
It is mounted as a major Indian production, with Oscar-winning visual effects company DNEG handling the VFX.
