Mumbai: Aamir Khan weighed in on Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan’s much-discussed train scene in ‘Pathaan’ while sharing his thoughts on whether the Khans are the last of Bollywood’s true superstars.
‘Pathaan’ featured a special cameo by Salman as Tiger, and his reunion with Shah Rukh became one of the film’s biggest highlights.
In a memorable scene, the two actors jokingly discuss being irreplaceable stars and hint that no younger actor is ready to take their place.
Reacting to the moment in a recent conversation with Variety India, Aamir said the scene was crafted in good humour.
“Salman and Shah Rukh are sitting at the end of the film and discussing who is going to… It was tongue-in-cheek. It was about the
film, but it was also about outside the film. Usme masti, mazaak tha… and people laughed as well. Without taking names, a lot of people guessed what they were trying to say,” the actor said.
However, Aamir added that the younger generation has since proven its strength.
“But today, those same young actors have shown us that not only are they there, they can give us a run for our money — ‘Chhaava’ Vicky Kaushal, ‘Animal’ Ranbir Kapoor, ‘Dhurandhar’ Ranveer. They’re there,” he remarked.
He went on to praise Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, and Ranveer Singh, calling them extremely talented and fully capable of carrying the industry forward.
According to Aamir, the new generation has established its place through a strong and consistent body of work.
Aamir’s nephew Imran Khan, who is set to return to films, also shared his perspective.
He suggested that senior stars could consider taking on more age-appropriate roles and allow younger actors to lead stories that resonate more closely with today’s audience, noting that younger viewers may not always connect with narratives centered on much older protagonists.
