Chandigarh: Less than a year after getting married and becoming parents, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt experienced a rare high at the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards.
Ranbir won the Best Actor accolade for his portrayal of Shiva in Ayan Mukerji’s action-adventure fantasy ‘Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva’, while Alia received the Best Actress award for her performance in ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’.
Ranbir, who could not attend the awards function in Mumbai on February 21, was grateful to the jury for selecting him, but confessed that he didn’t fully deserve the recognition.
“Of course I am very grateful ki mujhe yeh sammaan dia gaya. I don’t think I fully deserve it for Brahmastra. Wo bahut badi kuch acting performance nahi thi. Jab bhi kujh award aata hai to of course you feel great (my performance wasn’t outstanding but whenever you get an award, it feels great),” Ranbir said at a promotional event for his upcoming film ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ in Chandigarh.
Ranbir was, however, very excited for his wife and felt she fully deserves the award,
“I am very excited that Alia won the award because she was truly deserving for her performance in Gangubai (Kathiawadi). That’s one of her finest performances ever. Par jab award milta hai, ek ajha feedback, ek pappi milti hai ki chalo aapne theek thak kaam kia. Aur zyadatar feeling ye hoti hai ki chalo ye bach gaye, abhi agle tak tension abhi rakhenge. Ab ye jab film release ho to ye bhi chal gai, zyadatar yahi hota hai ki phew, bach gaye. (When we get an award, it is a good feedback, a pat on the back that we worked fine. The usual feeling is that we are safe for now, and won’t take tension till the next project. This film has worked and we are safe). On to the next one,” Ranbir said.
‘Brahmastra’, which hit the theatres in September 2022 after several delays, was the first film co-starring Alia and Ranbir. In fact it was during the filming of ‘Brahmastra’ that the duo fell in love, almost 5 years ago.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ was released a year ago.
