Mumbai: It took the Mumbai spinners just over two hours on the final day to end Odisha’s feeble resistance and post an innings-and-103-run victory in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group A fixture.
It was Odisha’s second straight innings loss on the road, having been outplayed by Baroda at Vadodara in their previous game.
Resuming their second innings at 126/5 on Saturday, requiring 191 more runs to make Mumbai bat a second time, Odisha were bowled out for 214. Aashirwad Swain added 5 to his overnight tally before being trapped leg-before wicket by Shams Mulani.
Kartik Biswal held firm to be unbeaten on 45, but the spin duo Mulani and Himanshu Singh kept chipping away at the other end.
Left-armer Mulani, who bagged 5/71 to finish with 11 wickets, was adjudged Player of the Match. Offie Himanshu claimed 4 in the second innings and 7 in the game as Odisha batters failed to counter the turning ball at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy ground.
After four rounds, Odisha find themselves second from the bottom with just 4 points. They will next come up against Maharashtra, this time at home in Cuttack.
