Ahmedabad: Shantanu Mishra continued his good form in this season’s Ranji Trophy, top-scoring with a patient 89 as Odisha reached 250 for 6 at stumps on the opening day of the Elite Group D match against Mumbai.
The right-handed opener batted more than two sessions to help Odisha recover from a jerky start after Odisha skipper Subhranshu Senapati won the toss at Narendra Modi Staium Ground B this morning.
Debasish Samantray fell for 10 and the captain managed 13 as Odisha slumped to 36 for 2.
Shantanu steadied the innings with Govinda Poddar (37), with the duo adding 74 runs for the third wicket.
The 27-year-old Shantanu then added 41 runs for the fifth wicket with wicketkeeper-batsman Rajesh Dhuper.
After the dismissals of Shantanu and Dhuper, allrounder Abhishek Raut held fort with an unbeaten 35 while Basant Mohanty (batting 17) kept him company.
Medium-pacer Mohit Avasthi and off-spinner Tanush Kotian bagged two wickets each.
Odisha, with just 3 points in the kitty from 2 matches, need to win their last group tie to stand a chance of advancing to the knockout stage.
