Cuttack: Odisha dominated the second day of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group A fixture against Haryana at the DRIEMS ground here on Wednesday.
Tested by wily Team India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, the Odisha batsmen held their own to reach 204/3 at stumps. The home team’s pace duo of Suryakant Pradhan (6/93) and Ranji Prayash Singh (3/66) earlier cut short Haryana’s first innings to restrict the visitors to 338.
Resuming at a promising 306/5, Haryana lost overnight centurion Nishant Sindhu (142) in the day’s second over off Prayash. He went on to capture two more scalps and Pradhan added two to his Day 1 tally as Haryana lost their last 5 wickets for the addition of 28 runs.
Odisha got off to a great start through their openers. Anurag Sarangi and Shantanu Mishra notched up half-centuries before both fell in the 60s. Swastik Samal, another first-class debutant, managed just a solitary run, before Subhranshu Senapati (42*) and Kartik Biswal (29*) added 48 for the unbroken fourth wicket.
Brief scores: Haryana 338 (Nishant Sindhu 142, Rohit Sharma 55; Suryakant Pradhan 6/93, Prayash Singh 3/66). Odisha 204/3 (Anurag Sarangi 63, Shantanu Mishra 60, Subhranshu Senapati batting 42; Yuzvendra Chahal 2/55).
