Guwahati: A fine bowling spell by medium first bowler, Rajesh Mohanty helped Odisha bundle out hosts Assam for a paltry 121 in 51.1 overs in the first innings on the first day of the four-day Ranji Trophy match at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday.
Put into bat, Assam lost its two openers, Rishav Das (14) and Parviz Aziz (3) quickly. Barring Sibsankar Roy (16), Riyan Parag (24), Arup Das (16) and Ranjeet Mali (28), six batsmen failed to reach double figure on a bowler-friendly track.
For Odisha, Rajesh Mohanty was the most successful bowler claiming five wickets. While Debabrata Pradhan bagged two wickets. Basant Mohanty, Biplab Samantray and Dhiraj Singh claimed one wicket each.
The visiting team lost two quick wickets of Rajesh Dhuper (1) and Govinda Poddar (0). But, Anurag Sarangi and Subranshu Senapati steadied the innings and took the score to 45 before Senapati got out at 10.
However, Captain Biplab Samantray (7) and Anurag (61) batted cautiously till the close of play with a score at 86 for 3.
For Assam, medium first bowler Mukhtar Hussain bagged three wickets.
