Bhubaneswar: Odisha collapsed to 191 all out in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match against Himachal Pradesh at Nadaun on Tuesday.
In reply, Himachal were 91/2 at stumps on Day 1, with prolific opener Prashant Chopra going great guns on an unbeaten 61. Odisha medium-pacers Basant Mohanty and Suryakant Pradhan took a wicket each.
Asked to bat first, Odisha crumbled on a pitch which provided some assistance to Himachal bowlers.
Four of the top six batters – Anshuman Rath (6), Anurag Sarangi (3), skipper Subhranshu Senapati (2) and Govinda Poddar (4) – fell cheaply.
Opener Shantanu Mishra, fresh from his double century in the previous match against Nagaland, stood out again with a stubborn half-century (52 off 107 balls). The only other batsman to show some resistance was Prayas Singh, who made 39 with 8 fours.
Odisha, lying in sixth place in Group A with 7 points, need an outright win to stay in hunt for a knockout berth.
Brief scores: Odisha 191 all out (Shantanu Mishra 52, Prayas Singh 39; Vaibhav Arora 5/51). Himachal Pradesh 91/2 (Prashant Chopra batting 61).
Match to continue.
