Bhubaneswar: An undertrial prisoner was found hanging under mysterious circumstances inside a jail in Odisha’s Puri district on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Dipti Ranjan Swain, a resident of Dahana Kumbharpara in the Sakhigopal area of Puri district. He had been lodged
in the jail since 2023 after his arrest in connection with a rape case.
According to sources, Swain’s body was found on the jail premises on Puri-Konark road this morning, following which the body was sent for postmortem to district headquarters hospital (DHH).
His family was informed that he had allegedly committed in the bathroom using his towel. “We were informed about his death at around 2 pm. He had spoken to his sister around 10.30 am. We were to move for his bail soon. He loved life too much to end it himself,” his mother told the media, alleging that he was murdered inside the jail.
She demanded a thorough investigation to uncover the truth behind the incident.
