Berhampur: A rape accused has escaped from Chhatrapur sub-jail in Ganjam district, police said on Tuesday.
The undertrial prisoner has been identified as Kabiraj Behera of Sunathar village near Purusottampur. Behera was arrested in a rape case on December 7 and has been lodged in the prison since then. However, he allegedly scaled the boundary wall of the jail on Monday night and fled.
Police have initiated efforts to trace the escapee. They have also launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances under which he managed to escape.
