Rape Accused Escapes From Maharashtra Police Custody In Odisha’s Gajapati

Paralakhemundi: A man, who was arrested by a police team from Maharashtra in a rape case, escaped from custody at Mohana in Odisha’s Gajapati district on Sunday.

According to sources, the rape accused has been identified as Juel Sabar of Antaraba, Purunasahi under the jurisdiction of Mohana police station in the district.

A police team from Nagpur in Maharashtra had reportedly caught the accused from a railway station and brought him to a lodge in Mohana on Saturday night.

Before their departure, the police personnel had gone for a bath, while the accused was kept handcuffed.

However, the accused gave a slip. CCTV footage showed him moving out of the lodge and cautiously walking away. He was reported to have been seen on a bridge from where he disappeared into thick bush in the area.

A search operation has been launched with the help of Mohana police to trace Juel.
