Cuttack: Sadar Police have arrested a youth for allegedly attempting to rape a college girl of Mahanga area in Cuttack district with his associate and uploading the video on social media.
The incident came to light when the victim approached ChildLine officials, who then lodged a complaint at Mahanga police station on Friday evening.
According to the complaint, two local youths of Mahanga forcibly took a Plus II student of a private college to a room in May this year and tried to rape her. They also recorded the incident.
In August, they again called her to a secluded place and threatened to make the video viral if she did not concede to their demand. When she declined, they uploaded the video on social media.
Getting over shame and self-blame, she finally reported the incident to the district officials of ChildLine.
A senior police officer of Cuttack Rural Police said a case has been registered and efforts are on to nab the other accused.
“Medical examination of the victim and the accused will be conducted today and the statement of the victim will be recorded in presence of a local magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC,” the officer added.
