Puri: The rape charge brought against the assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Balanga police station, Chitta Ranjan Das, has taken a new turn.
Puri SP Uma Shankar Das told the media on Saturday that the woman had not mentioned about her rape by the ASI while recording her statement under IPC Section 164 in the presence of a local magistrate in Puri on Friday. She has also refused to undergo a medical test.
Meanwhile, Das, who was arrested on Friday following the woman’s complaint, has been placed under suspension, said Puri Additional SP Arun Jena. He said Das will be produced in the court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Nimapara on Saturday.
According to the case records, the woman had gone to the Balanga police station recently to lodge a complaint after some miscreants had set fire to her husband’s auto-rickshaw. The ASI had accepted the complaint and assured her to look into the case.
Three months later, the ASI had allegedly phoned and called her to the police station with the documents of the vehicle. However, he later took her to his official residence on some pretext and raped her.
The accused cop was detained after the woman lodged a complaint with the Pipili SDPO.
