Rape Complaint Against Nepal Cricket Captain & IPL Player Sandeep Lamichhane

Kathmandu: Nepal’s cricket captain Sandeep Lamichhane is in trouble.

A 17-year-old girl has lodged a rape complaint against the talented Lamichhane, who is the face of Nepal cricket and was part of IPL franchise Delhi Capitals from 2018 to 2020, though he didn’t get to play a match.

“A rape complaint has been filed against Sandeep Lamichhane. It’s a minor’s complaint, I will give further details tomorrow. The victim’s health check-up has also been performed this evening,” Asst Inspector General at Kathmandu Valley Police Office Rabindra Singh Dhanuk told Nepal’s digital newspaper Setopati.

In her complaint, the girl stated that Lamichhane raped her on August 21 at a Kathmandu hotel. She claimed that she got to know about the Nepal captain through a common friend and went to Nagarkot with Lamichhane on August 17.

The day after the alleged incident, Lamichhane left for Kenya on August 22 to lead Nepal in the five-match T20I series against the African side. Having led Nepal to a 3-2 triumph in that series, 22-year-old Lamichhane left for the West Indies to play in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

It remains to be seen if Lamichhane is asked by Nepal police to return from the CPL.

Nepal Cricket Association may also take action against its star player.
