New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal said on Wednesday that she has been receiving rape threats on social media since she wrote to Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur to intervene and have filmmaker Sajid Khan removed from Bigg Boss 16.
There have been protests from several quarters after Sajid – against whom a number of women lodged complaints of sexual harassment during the #MeToo movement in 2018 — was chosen as one of the participants in Bigg Boss Season 16.
Maliwal said Sajid should be in jail and not on the reality show, which is hosted by Salman Khan.
Maliwal has filed a complaint to Delhi Police regarding rape threats.
In her complaint addressed to DCP Prashant Gautam of Delhi Police’s Cyber Crime department, Maliwal stated: “As you may be aware, in 2018, during the MeToo movement, over 10 actresses, models and journalists spoke out against the alleged sexual offences committed by Sajid Khan. Subsequently, he was suspended from the Indian Film and Television Directors Association from directing movies for a year.”

Speaking to India Today, Maliwal said: “During the MeToo campaign in 2018, women accused Sajid Khan of sexual harassment. Why is such a person on the Bigg Boss show? Jail is the place for such people. I have received rape threats on Instagram that Sajid Khan will rape me when he comes out of Bigg Boss. I have sent a complaint to Delhi Police.”
Maliwal said Sajid’s Bigg Boss 16 entry was an apparent attempt to ‘whitewash’ his image.
