Balasore: Locals have beaten an alleged rapist to death in Soro area of Balasore district, police said on Friday.
According to reports, a woman had gone to a nearby forest to collect dry leaves on Thursday afternoon when one Basant Singh allegedly raped her.
The victim’s family later found her lying in a critical condition in the forest.
The family along with villagers admitted the woman to the community health centre (CHC) in Soro.
They then caught hold of the accused rapist and thrashed him to death on the spot.
The IIC of Soro police station, Madhusmita Mohanty, told the media that police had received information about the lynching around 10.30 pm on Thursday.
“We have seized the deceased’s body and detained the husband of the rape survivor. However, no complaint has been lodged by the family members of either the deceased or the woman,” she added.
