Rapper Big Deal’s ‘I Am Odisha’ Spreads The Message Of Cyclone Fani

Rapper Big Deal is back with a new release — I Am Odisha — this time raising awareness about damages caused by Cyclone Fani and how the state has bounced back.

“National media isn’t covering us. I want people to know how severe the cyclone was and to help us rebuild Odisha,” said Samir Rishu Mohanty aka Big Deal. “I wanted people of other states to know how cyclones have affected us and yet we recover every time.”

The one-minute video highlights all cyclones that have hit Odisha since 1999.

The rapper, who likes to tell Odisha’s story, has done numbers in English, Hindi and Odia. His previous songs Mu Heli Odia, Apana Khusi Ta? and Are You Indian?, have won accolades.

It took around two weeks to make the whole thing. The audio was made by him in Bengaluru and the video produced by Bhubaneswar-based EIPL, said Samir, who is currently working on a few Hindi releases.
