Bhubaneswar: A rare Albino Indian Soft Shell Turtle has been found in a river by a villager in Bhubaneswar.
According to sources, a villager of Pandara in the city had set fishing rods in Kuakhai river to catch fish on Wednesday night. On Thursday morning, when he went to check to the spot, he found a turtle of light yellow colour hooked to the fishing rod.
Surprised by the colour of the turtle, he informed other villagers. They were equally surprised and could not identify it as they had never seen such turtle in their life.
On being informed, general secretary of Snake Helpline Subhendu Mallik came to the village and identified it as Albino Indian Soft Shell Turtle. As the physical characterstics of the Albino Indian turtle, the colour of its eyes were red.
The rare turtle has been handed over to the veterinary college of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology in Bhubaneswar. After checking the health condition of the turtle, it would be released in a natural habitation, Mallik said.
