Rare Anaconda Dies At Nandankanan In Bhubaneswar Following Illness

Bhubaneswar: An Anaconda died in the Nandankanan Zoological Park on the outskirts of Odisha capital. Zoo officials said the yellow Anakonda, which was unwell for the last few days, died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment.

The zoo authorities said that the exact cause of the death of the snake will be ascertained after post-mortem on Wednesday. The death of the reptile has brought down the number of Anakonda in the zoo.

Another Anaconda in the zoo is also reported to be unwell and necessary medical treatment is being provided to the reptile.
It may be recalled that a team of Nandankanan Zoo had brought eight yellow Anacondas (four males and four females) and three Nile crocodiles from Madras Crocodile Bank Trust & Centre for Herpetology (MCBT) in Chennai on October 22, 2019.
The yellow Anaconda belongs to the Boa species endemic to South America. It is one of the largest snakes in the world, but smaller than the green Anaconda. Like all Boas and Pythons, Anacondas are non-venomous and kill their preys by constriction.
