Bhubaneswar: There is a good news for wildlife lovers in Odisha. A rare species of bird ‘Mallard’ has been spotted for the first time at Mangalajodi Bird Sanctuary.
Mangalajodi is located at the northern edge of Chilika lake in Khurda district.
Avian guide Madhu Behera spotted the winged guest while he was monitoring the activities of birds in the lake. He also clicked some photographs of the bird.
The scientific name of this bird is Anas platyrhynchos. The ‘Mallard’ is generally seen in Eurosiberia and North America.
The bird was seen at Nala Bana in Chilika a long time ago. But this for the first time that this species was seen in Mangalajodi.
Notably, in 2018, Mallard was spotted in Bhitarakanika National Park.
Behera hopes that many bird lovers and bird watchers will come to Mangalajodi to watch Mallard.
It is winter and Mangalajodi, famous for its winged guests, is full of migratory birds. Nothing matches the thrill of witnessing the lovely avian species from close quarters here.
