Bhubaneswar: While Bengali film ‘Rosogolla’ struggled to find its sweet spot, Swaraj Mishra’s ‘Rasagola’ has been adjudged the best documentary at the 31st Odisha State Film Awards-2019 announced on Friday.
This is the story of a fatherless boy and his love for Rasagola, adapted from ‘Babuna’, published in the bibliography of Ama Odisha. It is based on true events of 1970s from a village on the outskirts of Puri.
Amritansu Bisoi has played the protagonist, Babuna. Other star cast includes Choudhuri Bikash Das, Bhaswati Basu, Bhikari Swain, Kumuduni, Satrughna Panda and child artists Siba Prasad and Ladli.
Mishra has also written the screenplay and dialogues of the movie directed by Kumar Shree Banu Rana.
The film was released on Manjari TV in 2020 on the occasion of Niladri Bije.
The Niladri Bije and Mahalaxmi Manabhanjan episodes have been shown in the movie, establishing Rasagola’s centuries-old association with Puri Jagannath Temple and the Jagannath cult. This sweet dumpling is served on both happy and sad occasions in the state.
