Hyderabad: A day after Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna’s period drama ‘Chhaava’ hit theatres, a video from the pre-release event has gone viral, leaving netizens with a bad taste in the mouth.
The film’s leading lady Rashmika, who hails from Coorg in Karnataka, claims to be from Hyderabad in the video, which has miffed netizens.
“Because I’m from Hyderabad, and I have come alone and today I hope I am a part of all of your family,” the actress said.
The clip was shared on X with the caption: “I sometimes feel pity for you for receiving unnecessary negativity/targeting from our fellow Kannadigas. But when you make statements like this, I think they are right, and you deserve the backlash.”
One user wrote, “I just feel she tries to over impress Telugu audience and Telugu film fraternity and ends up with statements like this.”
Another added, “What an opportunist.”
“It’s a bigger market, so a smart career choice over loyalty,” expressed one person.
Well, this is not the first time that Rashmika, who forayed into the industry with Kannada films, has disowned her roots.
The actress claimed several times earlier that she belongs to Hyderabad.

However, some others defended the actress and commented that she has never disowned her roots.
One fan wrote, “She always claims she is from Coorg & wears Kodava sarees. U people bring out any clip without context & blame her. She meant she is staying in hyd now, she came from hyd to mumbai with a broken foot. Otherwise 1000 other times she said she’s from coorg!”
“It’s a vicious circle … Why will she want an identity from where she gets trolled every day,” posted another.
“She decided to do this because you people trolled for her personal life choice .. so changed her birthplace .. trolled her again .. this is no one should cross limits at this point,” read another comment.
Rashmika has delivered many hit films including ‘Geetha Govindam,’ ‘Dear Comrade,’ and ‘Sarileru Neekevvaru’, ‘Pushpa: The Rise’, ‘Animal’ and its sequel ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule.’
After ‘Chhaava’, she will next be seen in ‘Sikandar’, opposite Salman Khan.
