Rashmika Mandanna’s First Look As ‘Maharani Yesubai’ From ‘Chhaava’ Unveiled; Trolls Say ‘Miscast’

Mumbai: Maddock Films took to its official Instagram handle on Tuesday to share the first look of Rashmika Mandanna from the upcoming film ‘Chhaava.’

In the first look posters, Rashmika is seen wearing a saree, along with heavy jewellery. While the actress is seen smiling in the first poster, she gives a grim expression in the second.

The Instagram post was captioned as: “Behind every great king, there stands a queen of unmatched strength. Introducing @rashmika_mandanna as Maharani Yesubai – the pride of Swarajya #ChhaavaTrailer Out Tomorrow! Releasing in cinemas on 14th February 2025.”

In the period drama, which stars Vicky Kaushal as Maratha king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Rashmika will be seen portraying the character of his wife, Maharani Yesubai.

However, Rashmika’s first look from the film left netizens disappointed and they called her a ‘miscast’ for the role.

One user wrote, “Gone are the days when they use to do look test for role. She doesn’t look the part and I have no hopes she is gonna get dictation correctly.. She is clear miscast!.”

Another commented, “miscast. she doesn’t have the face for periodic films imo.”

A netizen shared, “This sounds a bit controversial, but it might be too early to say she’s miscast based on the first look poster, let’s hope her role is given enough character depth🤞🏼.”

Another fan pointed out, “Looks like Srivalli with more Jewellery and Maharashtrian Saree.”

Produced by Maddock Films and directed by Laxman Utekar, ‘Chhaava’ is based on the “stirring tale of courageous warrior whose coronation on this day in 1681 marked the beginning of a legendary reign.”

Besides Vicky and Rashmika, the film also features Akshaye Khanna in a key role.

The trailer of the film, which is scheduled to hit the theatres on February 14, will be released on Wednesday.

While talking about his role in the film, Vicky, who was felicitated with the Youth Icon Of 2024 honour at the CNN-News18’s Indian Of The Year Awards, said, “The first feeling is just, ‘Will I be able to do justice to such an incredible legacy?’ But that’s what excites me the most as well. Also, every opportunity like this, when you get a great man like Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, it is also a beautiful opportunity to understand their culture, their history, their values, their beliefs, and their love for the country.”
