Puri: Cracks have been detected on the chariots of Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra — Taladhwaja and Darpadalana. The cracks were detected during an inspection of the chariots before the ‘Dakhina Moda’ (southward turn) rituals.
The inspection team found cracks on the ‘Pidinahaka’ wheel of Taladhwaja and the Badaucchula wheel of Darpadalana. Iron plates will be installed in both wheels, the Public Works Department (PWD) said.
Before Rath Yatra, during the construction of the chariots, an axle of Nandighosha, the chariot of Lord Jagannath, was found defective and was replaced.
Biswakarmas tried to repair it with iron clamps. But an inspection team comprising engineers had suggested replacing it after a thorough check.
