Puri: Ahead of the world famous Rath Yatra scheduled to kick off in Puri on July 14, the Odisha Police stepped up its efforts for a full-proof security for the mega event.

A preparatory meeting to this effect was held here on Tuesday which was presided over by the Director General of Police (DGP) R P Sharma. Sources said the preparations and security arrangements would remain in force for Snana Yatra, Rath Yatra and Niladri Bije of the Lords.

The State Police will come up with an elaborate security, traffic and other contingency plans well in its next meeting.

“The meeting discussed the problems of police personnel and things that need to be addressed before the Rath Yatra. A detailed security arrangement will be made after review of the force requirement, deployments made last year and other aspects,” Sharma told mediapersons after the meeting.

The meeting was attended by ADG Arun Ray, IG (Central Range) Soumendra Priyadarshi, IGPs Sanjiv Panda and Amitabh Thakur, Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi and other senior officials.
