Rath Yatra: Puri MLA Writes To Governor, CM To File Review Petition In Supreme Court

Bhubaneswar: The list of prominent persons voicing their support to Rath Yatra continued to lengthen with Puri MLA Jayanta Kumar Sarangi writing to Governor Ganeshi Lal and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to intervene in the matter.

Stating that the cancellation of Rath Yatra by the Supreme Court has hurt the religious sentiments of millions of devotees across the world, the MLA in his letter said it has led to varied reactions from different sections of the society.

While the people of Puri observed bandh for one day and there were public protests in different parts of the country, Sri Jagannath Mandir Management Committee took  unanimous resolution, Puri Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb wrote to the Chief Minister and Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati released video appeal to hold the Rath Yatra, Sarangi said.

Considering these reactions, the government can take all possible measures against coronvirus like preventing presence of devotees and declaring shutdown during the Rath Yatra, the legislator said and pledged his whole-hearted support to the administration for the purpose.

He appealed to the Governor and the Chief Minister to take steps to file petition before the Supreme Court mentioning all its preparedness for modification in the court’s previous order on stopping the Rath Yatra.
