Bhubaneswar: Following the demand by the local people, Ratnagiri Road railway station in Odisha’s Jajpur district has been renamed as Udaygiri-Ratnagiri Road railway station.
In a letter to special secretary, Home Department, the Ministry of Home Affairs, CS division has mentioned about the renaming of the railway station.
Requesting the special secretary to mention the new name in English, Hindi and local language, the Ministry has also wanted the new name to be published in Odisha Gazette.
Ratnagiri Road railway station, which comes under Khurda division of East Coast Railway (ECoR), comes under Haridaspur-Paradip railway project.
Due to its location near Udaygiri, the locals had demanded the station to be renamed as Udaygiri-Ratnagiris Road.
It may be noted that Lalitgiri, Udayagiri, Ratnagiri are popularly known as Diamond Tingle of Odisha due to the finding of the remains of various Buddhist stupas and monasteries in the area.
