Cuttack: In a shocking incident, three students of Ravenshaw College were allegedly abducted from Cuttack and then abandoned on a road in Kharagpur in West Bengal.

The students — two boys and a girl — were abducted while they were travelling in an auto-rickshaw to Badambadi bus stand. The incident took place in broad daylight on December 19.

On the fateful day, two Plus II Arts students, who stay at a private hostel in Cuttack, had hired an auto-rickshaw around 2.15 pm for Badambadi to catch buses to their native places in Jajpur and Bhadrak districts.

On the way, they picked up the girl, a Plus III student of Ravenshaw College, who was going to Badambadi to purchase medicines.

Reportedly, the auto driver stopped the vehicle near a canal at Ranihat on the pretext of buying paan. He then allegedly sprayed a chemical on their faces to make them unconscious.

The trio regained consciousness in the evening on a roadside in Kharagpur. They somehow managed to reach the railway station and took help from railway police to contact their families.

Their families later reached Kharagpur railway station and took them back.

The victims alleged that the abductors had abandoned them after looting their cash. However, their phones, which were switched off, were found inside their bags.

According to police sources, an SUV was spotted near the spot while vehicle checking was being conducted on the national highway in Kharagpur. The miscreants might have dumped the victims on the road and fled from the area, the sources said.

Latest reports said that the rescued victims are undergoing treatment at private hospitals. While one complaint has been lodged in Bhadrak, two students will file their complaints with the Commissionerate Police in Cuttack after recovery.
