RBI GM ‘Hangs Self’ In Jajpur Hotel

Jajpur: A general manager of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was found hanging in a hotel room at Chandikhol in Jajpur district on Friday morning.

The deceased, Asish Ranjan Samal (52), was working as the GM of the RBI branch in Guwahati, Assam.

According to sources, Samal had come to his native village of Naraharipur to meet his mother on Thursday. Then he proceeded to Bhubaneswar to meet his wife, who is a doctor at KIIMS, and his son, a Plus Two student. Later, Samal went to Chandikhol and booked a room in his name at the hotel.

On Friday morning, the hotel staff alerted Badachana police after no one opened the door despite repeated knockings. Police broke open the door and found him hanging from the ceiling fan in the room.

Police said they have sent the body for post-mortem and began a probe to ascertain the exact cause of death. They suspect he committed suicide due to a family dispute.
