Bhubaneswar: Amazon did brisk business during the ongoing festive season in Odisha’s capital, with sales surging on orders for ready-to-eat food, snacks, biscuits, nutritional bars, men’s grooming products, cleaning and laundry essentials by residents of the city.
Amazon recorded a five-fold increase in orders for ready-to-eat meals, snacks and biscuits, two-fold rise in orders for chocolates, four-fold increase in orders for men’s grooming products, three-fold rise in demand for nutritional bars and 2.5-fold increase in sales of cleaning supplies in the state capital, according to a TNIE report.
Laundry items also saw a 13-fold increase in demand compared to last year. Amazon India Director (Consumables) Nishant Raman was quoted in the TNIE report as saying that unlike other cities, the growth in ready-to-eat food and snacks in a city like Bhubaneswar, where people prefer home-cooked food, was quite encouraging for online trade.
In view of the surge in demand, Raman said that under the local shops programme, more than two lakh local stores from over 350 cities including 10,000 sellers from the state were now associated with Amazon.in, the TNIE report said.
