Real Estate Activist Draws PM’s Attention To Odisha Minister’s Remark On RERA Act

Bhubaneswar: A real estate activist has drawn the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to certain remarks made by Odisha’s Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act.

In a post on X handle, activist Bimalendu Pradhan highlighted how the Minister while speaking at an event raised questions about the applicability of the RERA Act.

He said a video of the event showed that Pujari sought to know as to where it is written that RERA Act is a compulsory law for all states in the country. The post also carried a video of the event where the Minister was seen speaking.

The Minister further stated that the state government will change the RERA as well as the laws pertaining to the development authorities in the state.

The Activist pointed out that the RERA Act, 2016 clearly mentions that the law extends to the whole of India except Jammu and Kashmir.

“By the way, in the meantime even the state of Jammu and Kashmir has also implemented RERA,” he stated.

Activist Pradhan further stated that the West Bengal govt. tried the same ‘HARA-KIRI’ in 2018. However, the Supreme Court later declared the ‘WB-HIRA’ repugnant to the RERA, and hence unconstitutional.
