New Delhi: Nishu Aazad, the student protester whose father was assaulted during the Jantar Mantar agitation in July, claimed on Saturday she has been receiving repeated threats, abusive messages and death threats.
In a post on X, Nishu said she was “genuinely concerned” about her safety and well-being, and urged authorities to investigate the threats and ensure her safety.
Nishu, in her early teens, also raised questions over the legal proceedings against Swatantra Bhardwaj, the self-proclaimed right-wing influencer who was arrested after a video surfaced where he is seen bragging about ‘breaking the skull’ of Nishu’s father.
Bhardwaj was produced before a court on Saturday and remanded to one day of police custody for evidence collection.
“There is still no official confirmation from Delhi Police regarding the SC/ST or POCSO Acts,” Nishu said in her post. “As the victim, I seek only truth, clarity, and justice.”
Bhardwaj was detained in UP’s Bulandshahr on Friday following protests by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) outside Parliament Street police station in Delhi, demanding his arrest over the alleged assault on Nishu’s father during the July 20 protest at Jantar Mantar.
Nishu’s counsel Rishav Ranjan questioned the limited duration of custody, calling it “very strange”.
“I don’t know what is being hidden,” Ranjan said, claiming that Delhi Police had not officially clarified the sections added to the case.
Delhi Police had earlier added provisions under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and criminal intimidation to the FIR against Bhardwaj. A POCSO case has also been registered against him.
