New Delhi: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) announced on Saturday that the Red Fort premises will reopen for the public from November 16, five days after a deadly car blast near the historic fort killed 13 people and injured many more.
A slow-moving white Hyundai i20, driven by Al-Falah University doctor Umar Nabi, exploded near Gate 1 of the Lal Quila (Red Fort) Metro station at 6.52 pm on November 10.
The decision to reopen the gates of Red Fort came hours after the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) reopened gate Nos 2 and 3 of the Metro station, which was shut after the powerful blast.
“The Red Fort metro station’s gate numbers 2 and 3 are now open for commuters, restoring partial access that had been suspended as part of security measures following the incident,” DMRC said in a post on X.
Not just the Red Fort and the Metro station, there was an immediate lockdown of the surrounding area following Monday’s explosion. Enhanced checks and movement restrictions were in force for several days as security agencies carried out investigations.
A red-collar terror module, which was busted days before the Red Fort blast, is being investigated by the NIA with Faridabad’s Al-Falah University being the primary focus.
