Bhubaneswar: The redevelopment work of Swargadwar in Puri will be completed by March, 2021.
It was revealed at a meeting held by secretary to chief minister (5T) VK Pandian on Saturday to review the progress of development of Swargadwar, Gosala for stray cattle and rehabilitation of beggars after his visit to the Holy Town.
After the cyclone FANI wrecked havoc on the town, chief minister Naveen Patnaik had announced his commitment to develop Puri as a world heritage city. As part of the 5T initiative, several works have been taken up in this regard since then including redevelopment of Swargadwar with funding from CMRF.
As an interim measure, shed and other facilities are provided to people visiting Swargadwar for cremation of their relatives.
To make the Badadanada clean, the stray cattle have been shifted to Gosalas. Around 700 cattle have been shifted and 400 more will be shifted in next one month. Funding for next 5 years for feed and maintenance of the cattle has been tied up with CMRF.
Similarly steps have been taken for rehabilitation of beggars from Badadanda so that they can lead a respectful life. Around 500 beggars have been rehabilitated in various institutions. Of the, 150 have been reunited with their families.
Pandian also visited Banki Muhana and Puri blue flag beach. Puri collector and the commissioners of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) were present during the review meeting.
BMC and CMC will also shift the stray cattle and rehabilitate them in Gosalas in their respective areas. They will also start rehabilitation of beggars in their areas, it was revealed at the meeting.
