Reform Needs To Be Made In Higher Education Sector: Guv

Bhubaneswar: Although the status of higher education sector is better than that in Bihar, reforms need to be made in the sector to provide education to students in a more effective manner, said Odisha Governor and Chancellor of State Universities Satya Pal Mallik on Tuesday.

Following a meeting with the vice chancellors of 17 universities, the Governor said, “Transparency is very much essential in the universities so as to provide quality education to students, who are the real assets of our country.”

Mallik also placed special emphasis on proper management of examinations and timely publication of results and campus discipline.

This is the first time that Mallik, as the Chancellor, conducting such meeting after taking over as the Gvernor of Odisha.

The meeting attended by higher education minister Ananta Das, IT minister Chandrasarathi Behera, finance minister Sashi bhusan Behera and tourism & culture minister Ashok Chandra Panda involved discussions on universities’ problems and ways to overcome them.

The other important topics of the meeting included filling up vacant teaching posts on priority basis and challenges faced by the authorities of the state universities and students in the wake of recent violence in the campuses of Ravenshaw University and Utkal University.
