Reforms Panel Serves Notice To ASI Over Posters On Jagannath Temple Walls

Puri: The Justice BP Das Commission on Puri Jagannath Temple reforms
on Thursday served a notice to the Archaeological Survey of India
(ASI) stating that putting up posters on the walls of the shrine is a
punishable offence.

Through the notice, the commission has asked the ASI to explain within
15 days on why FIR should not be lodged against the central agency for such offence.

On December 22, handwritten posters put up by Sevayat Samaj opposing
ban on camera mobile phones were found on the temple premises.

Through posters the servitors urged the Shree Jagannath Temple
Administration (SJTA) to maintain the same guidelines for the devotees
and sevayats. The devotees should be allowed to carry non-camera
mobile phones inside the shrine, the posters read. The posters
also urged the servitors to purchase non-camera phones at their own
expenses.
