Berhampur: Police have detained two youths in connection with the death of a youth in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Saturday.
One among them has been identified as Subrat Sahoo, a relative.
Rajdeep Sahoo, a resident of Mala Tentulia village under Polasara block, went missing on Thursday. His family filed a missing pe
rson complaint at Polasara police station, after his phone was found switched off. While police began an investigation, his family received a phone call demanding Rs 40 lakh ransom for his safe return. “A relative had orchestrated his kidnapping. First, he called my son to Polasara under the pretext of handing over Rs 5 lakh. He then directed him to proceed to Dhanei dam, from where we suspect that he was kidnapped,” Rajdeep’s father Prakash Chandra Sahu told a local news channel.
He also confirmed receiving the ransom demand during this period.
The youth’s body recovered from a ghati area in Daringbadi under Sorada police limits. It showed signs of beating. Last rites were performed in the village on Saturday.
